Communes
Poznań District comprises 17 well economically developed communes whose activities and first-rate organisation has often been noted and appreciated. The region, located in the centre of Western Poland, around Poznań (a potent business centre and the capital of Wielkopolska) has, for many years, been attracting global corporations and the representatives of the SME sector. Communes surrounding Poznań are: Buk, Czerwonak, Dopiewo, Kleszczewo, Komorniki, Kostrzyn, Kórnik, Luboń, Mosina, Murowana Goślina, Pobiedziska, Puszczykowo, Rokietnica, Stęszew, Suchy Las, Swarzędz and Tarnowo Podgórne.
Buk Commune is situated 30 km to the west of Poznań. It covers the area of 90.3 km2. Buk is also popular with investors. Transportation and railroad routes cross in the commune (A2 motorway, Buk motorway hub entrance rump and exit, and Berlin – Poznań railroad line). Along the motorway, TGV fast railroad line is planned to be built in the future. This confirms the saying transportation routes are economic backbone of a country. Favorable investment climate and attractive sites owned by the commune draw many
companies to the region,, including foreign ones. The following corporations have already made investments in the commune: Wavin Metalplast, Fer S.A., Kreis Pack.
Czerwonak Commune covers an area of 82.2 km2 and borders on Poznań. Resilient economy and low unemployment attract a growing number of people to come and live there. Perfect location

Dopiewo Commune with an area of 108 km2 is located along western border of Poznań. It takes only a 20 min. trip to reach Poznań center and only 10 to get to Ławica Airport from Dopiewo, which is also easily accessible from A2 motorway exit (Buk hub located in 9 km and Głuchowo hub in 6 km distance).
Kleszczewo Commune is located east of Poznań, in the central part of Wielkopolskie Province. It covers an area of 74.8 km2. Sound management, typical of the Wielkopolska region, best characterizes Kleszczewo Commune. Agriculture is the main sector of local economy, and arable land constitutes nearly 89% of commune's area. More than 400 farms of size comparable to these in the European Union operate in Kleszczewo. Thanks to A2 motorway and planned S-5 express road, the commune is changing its image, and the sites for business activity it offers along them draw large numbers of investors.
Komorniki Commune covers an area of 66.55 km2. Logistic attributes determine its economic development of the commune, as A2 Warsaw- Berlin motorway runs through it, and two hubs linking the motorway with major transportation routes are located there. Companies that placed their investments in the commune have already appreciated transportation attractiveness of Komorniki. Their total number reaches 1,300 and the largest ones include Bertelsmann, Hormann Polad, Novol, Polish Mail, DHL, Stalexport Wielkopolska, Unima and Viessmann. Komorniki is also a commune attractive in terms of tourism. Close proximity to National Park of Wielkopolska and picturesque views of several lakes make people settle down there. In the beautiful scenery of forests and lakes, a growing number of detached houses are built. Local residents also enjoy several cycling trails, numerous bodies of water and easy access to Poznań.
Kostrzyn Commune covers an area of 154 km2. Kostrzyn is a commune with agricultural and industrial character. Farmland constitutes almost 80% of its area and majority of farms have an area of 10-15 ha. Small and medium-sized companies shape its economic potential and natural and landscape attributes are conducive to the development of construction industry. Major transportation routes, including international Berlin-Moscow railroad line run through the commune. Warsaw-Berlin A2 motorway runs only a few kilometers from its southern border. An expressway that is planned to be built soon will provide easy access to Kleszczewo motorway hub.
Kórnik Commune covers an area of 185 km2. Interregional transportation routes, including A2 motorway cross there. Among famous personalities related with the town of Kórnik, which is located in a 20 km distance from Poznań, is Wisława Szymborska, a laureate of Nobel Prize in the field of literature 1996, who was born there in 1923.
Luboń Commune enjoys a status of a town. It covers an area of 13.5 km2. Economic development of Luboń is determined by its links with the capital of Wielkopolska, on which it borders from the north. Almost 2,800 business entities operate in the town. Several service and production companies from Luboń work for the ones in Poznań. A large proportion of local residents commute to work and school in Poznań. However, Luboń is a traditional production and service center. Two large companies (WPPZ SA potato processing plant, and Luboń sp. z o.o. chemical works) provide employment to nearly 200 workers. Major east-west transportation roads run through the town. One of exits from A2 motorway is located in Luboń (Poznań-Dębina hub). The Poznań-Ławica Airport is situated in only 10 km distance from the town and is easily accessible. A growing number of people are moving from Poznań to Luboń, which positively affects the development of housing construction. The town has earmarked 100 ha of land for housing construction including detached houses and apartment blocks, the works on which have already started, and provided for the creation of a new downtown center. Several service and sports and recreation facilities will be built there. In the near future, 5,000 new residents will move in there.
The Commune occupies an area of 17,100 ha. The town of Mosina is situated 18 km south of Poznań, the capital city of the Wielkopolska region. Its greatest landscape and natural jewel is the Rogalin Landscape Park picturesquely located along the floodland of the Warta River valley with its backwaters and marginal lakes, in the vicinity of forests and charmingly situated lakes. Forests cover around 40% of the Commune's area.
The Murowana Goślina Commune is one of the largest commune of Poznań District with area of 17,000 square kilometers. Its vast rural and forest terrains create great opportunities for community's development in the scope of recreation and tourism. The proximity of Poznań as well as the Poznań – Wągrowiec and Poznań – Rogoźno roads that cross the Commune contribute to a constant influx of people. Mostly self-employed entrepreneurs or small entities employing just a few workers form business environment in the community and agricultural development is one of its priorities. The scope of activity of some of local farms is gradually changing in the direction of tourism and thus creating an attractive tourist offer.
Pobiedziska Commune is the largest one in Poznań District. The Commune occupies an area of 18,900 ha. The Community does not directly border on Poznań, as it lies north-east of the Czerwonak and Swarzędz Communes. The town of Pobiedziska is situated on the Piast Route, which is connected with the origins of Polish State and with the Piast Dynasty that ruled over Polish lands in early Middle Ages (10th century). The route is marked out by the most significant political centers of the Piast Poland.
Puszczykowo is a small town occupying an area of 16.7 square kilometers. It is situated in the charming precincts of the Warta River valley and surrounded by the National Park of Wielkopolska. The vicinity of lakes and rivers, the natural diversity of forest life, the clean and healthy air are conditions that contribute to the inhabitants' good health and to the development of tourism. Puszczykowo is a "villa commune". Due to its location and attractive conditions ecological manufacture plants set up here which produce mostly food, clothes and furniture. It is a non-standard town, called "Poznań's bedroom suburb", and geared towards villa construction. That is why there have been no investment areas zoned here for the construction of large industrial plants, production halls or commercial centers.
Rokietnica Commune is situated in the region of Wielkopolska and covers an area of 79.31 km². The Commune is crossed by Poznań-Szamotuły provincial road and the Poznań-Koszalin domestic road no. 11. The A2 international route crosses the southern part of the community. An outstanding feature of the Rokietnica region is the beautiful landscape of the Wielkopolska countryside. It is mainly agricultural community with individual farms, whose area does not exceed 10 hectares. Recent years, however, have seen a decrease in farmland for the benefit of business activity and housing development. Actually, it was with potential investors in mind that large areas have been zoned for business activity and housing development when in spatial development plans. The Commune is ecology-minded and this is why there are no polluting or particularly harmful to the environment production plants. Huge enterprises have been investing in the area, to mention Bore Poland in Rogierówko, Poz-Bruk in Sobota, Titan-Eko Sp. z o.o. in Rokietnica. It is worth mentioning that in Przybroda the Agricultural University of Poznań keeps its Experimental Agricultural and Orcharding Farm. Modern technologies of plant production as well as plant growth and harvest models are tested there.
The Commune occupies an area of 17,522 hectares. It is mostly an agricultural community. The proximity of Poznań as well as a convenient location on National Road 5 to Wrocław and Road 32 to Zielona Góra help the community develop faster and faster. This land is marvellously situated in terms of tourist attractiveness. The Scandinavian glacier left here slightly wavy and hilly terrains with picturesquely dispersed lakes and forests. The enchanting landscape invites for hikes and water tourism. There are numerous buildings of architectural interest to be admired, most of them churches.
The Such Las Community covers an area of 116,5 km2 and is located north of Poznań. It is intersected by national road no. 11 joining the Silesia region and Koszalin. These factors considerably influence local development and its main directions. It is significant that a military training ground in Biedrusko constitutes 60% of the community's area.
The town and community of Swarzędz are situated in Wielkopolska on the Wrzesińska Plain. They cover an area of 101.9 km2 (the town – 8.2 km2, rural areas 93.7 km2). Swarzędz is located on the international route no. 2, which links the east and west of Europe (the Berlin-Poznań-Warsaw-Terespol route). Another international route, road no. 5 joining Scandinavia and the Czech Republic, runs through the community. Moreover, two major railroad lines, one providing the connection between the east and west of the country, the other one between the south of Poland and the Tri-City. The commune area is flat, slightly undulating (it rises 85 – 105 meters above sea level), and intersected by the riverbeds of Główna, Cybina, which are the tributaries of Warta River, as well as other minor water bodies. Various entrepreneurs have set their eyes on Swarzędz Commune. They are both large companies, such as Volkswagen, British Petroleum, Deceuninck, Grupa Swarzędz S.A., Vox, Pozbruk, as well as medium sized and small businesses dominated by the trade, upholstery and carpentry sectors. Swarzędz is famous all over Poland for its wood processing center and its carpentry traditions have sustained the town's reputation for years.
Tarnowo Podgórne Community borders on Poznań from the west. It covers the area of 101,38 km2. Excellent location and very good infrastructure create particularly conducive investment conditions. The employment level reflects this best; unemployment rate in the community is the lowest in the region of Wielkopolska. What especially attracts entrepreneurs to the land of Tarnowo Podgórne is A2 motorway linking Poznań, Berlin and Warsaw. Today, over 2,000 businesses operate in the community. The most prominent companies are Stollwerck, Nico, Schattdecor, Andreas Stihl, Reemtsma, and Elite Polska. Apart from large, widely recognized and very successful corporations, also small enterprises with local scope of activity are seated there.
